This week, our Teddies have been learning all about how we can keep our bodies healthy, fit and well.
We have been talking together about some of the simple things we can do every day to look after ourselves, including brushing our teeth, eating a balanced range of foods, drinking plenty of water, getting enough rest and keeping our bodies active.
As part of our learning, the children enjoyed practising brushing teeth using toothbrushes and shaving foam to represent toothpaste. This gave us a lovely opportunity to talk about why brushing our teeth is so important and how it helps to keep our teeth clean and healthy.
We also explored different fruits and vegetables throughout the week. The children had lots of fun using vegetables for painting and printing, noticing the different shapes, colours and patterns they could create. We were especially impressed with how many of our Teddies were willing to have a go at trying new vegetables at lunchtime. It was lovely to see them becoming more confident and curious about different foods.
We talked about the importance of drinking water and how it helps to keep our bodies hydrated. We also discussed rest and sleep, and why giving our bodies time to relax and recover is such an important part of staying healthy.
We certainly got our bodies moving too! During singing time, Rachel helped us explore movement through music and encouraged the children to move their bodies in lots of different ways. The children really enjoyed joining in, listening to the music and following the actions.
Our Teddies also enjoyed learning some simple yoga poses, encouraging balance, coordination, concentration and calm movement.
To add to our active week, we were very lucky to have a fitness instructor visit us. The children took part in a range of fun exercises and movements, and we talked about how our bodies feel when we exercise. The children noticed that their hearts were beating faster after being active and began to understand how exercise helps to keep our bodies strong and healthy.
It has been a really enjoyable week full of movement, healthy choices and lots of hands-on learning. Our Teddies have shown great enthusiasm and have enjoyed exploring the different ways we can take care of ourselves.
