This week, our Pandas have been learning all about health and wellbeing through lots of fun, hands-on activities and learning through play.
We began the week by getting creative with fingerprint hearts and apple-printing hearts. The children enjoyed exploring the different textures, colours and patterns they could create, while also developing their fine motor skills and confidence in using different materials.
We also shared the much-loved story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children had great fun helping to feed the caterpillar the different foods from the story, giving us lots of opportunities to talk about the foods we eat and begin to explore which foods help our bodies to grow strong and healthy.
Our tuff tray was transformed with a Super Potato theme, where the children used scoops and pots to explore peas and vegetables. This encouraged lots of sensory exploration, filling and emptying, hand-eye coordination and imaginative play.
We also spent time talking about germs and the importance of keeping our hands clean. The children enjoyed washing germs away from our frozen ice hands, helping them to begin to understand why handwashing is such an important part of keeping ourselves healthy.
Throughout the week, we explored healthy and less healthy food choices and introduced the idea that some foods help our bodies grow and stay strong, while other foods are best enjoyed in smaller amounts.
Looking after our teeth was another important part of our learning. The children practised brushing dirty teeth and talked about why we need to brush our teeth to keep them clean and healthy.
It has been a busy and exciting week in the Panda Room, with lots of opportunities for the children to explore, investigate and learn through play. We have loved seeing how engaged and enthusiastic they have been with all of our healthy living activities.
Next week, we will be heading into the wonderful world of Woodland Wonders, where we will be exploring woodland animals, nature and the changing season. We are looking forward to another lovely week of learning together.
